Concerning the Championship, this was sent to all members, but some people's email does not work.
Hello,
As indicated on the club web site, next Sunday 30 August is the
club championship. At the AGM, the format of the
club championship was changed.
The course of fire will be 3 details; (a) 2 + 15 @ 300
yards, (b) 2 + 15 @ 500 yards. a+b will be entered
as GA-IX (ex-150). A further detail of 2 + 15
@ 500 yards will complete the championship; a+b+c;
ex-225. There will be no shooting at 200 yards. The
duty range office should endeavour to delay the squadding
of detail-C, until the score of details a/b are complete, and
should endeavour to place the leading contenders in the later
detail.
As there are to be only 2 distances, and because of the paucity
of numbers in recent years, this is not being run as an
invitation only shoot, and pre-booking is not
required. HOWEVER please note the early start time
of 9:00 am. IE you should arrive by 8:30 am so as to
get the range rigged etc.
Those of you who would wish to use club rifles or buy ammunition,
you need to start arranging that now.
As previously indicated in the secretary's blog, I shall not
be attending,
Regards,
Brian.
At the BSA AGM, the issue of cars on the range was raised once
again, and there is now some clarity of what the rules are.
But first some back ground:- The lease that the BSA holds for use of the field, which the BSA inherited from TAVRA, covers use of the firing points and a small strip at the left hand edge of the field. The TAVRA right of vehicular access for was presumed to be one Bedford truck that could deliver and removes stores [e.g. amunition] and act as an ambulance. For the first 20 years of my membership of F&K, F&K managed without any vechicles on the range. And that was not because the membership was younger; we had then retirees - sadly now passed on, such as Tim MacMillan, Bert Schnazel etc. It is only in recent years that members have taken vehicles on to the range, and in increasing numbers.
At the meeting, it was mentioned that the owner of the field [Mr
Meikland] had sought
out a member of the BSA committee and that he was 'really
agitated' and had said 'sort it out or else I shall
padlock the
gate'. Perhaps because in the
past few years the field was used for animals this has not been an
issue, but this year it
is an issue for it is a commercial crop. It is most important
that clubs & members using the BSA facility do not abuse the
terms of BSA's lease nor damage relationships with the owners,
especially because the BSA hopes to negotiate an extension to the
lease.
Hence the following extra range orders: -
Whether that means that the one vechicle shall be a 4x4, I
leave to other drivers to decide; I, for one, do not
drive my [saloon] car up the range. The BSA AGM further discussed the
issue of car parking -- in the
field. It is felt that parking cars at the bottom of the field (i.e.
the triangular area bounded the gate, the acoustic wall and the fence,
approximately) was OK, if treated as a priviledge for it is
not a right. However again that has to be interpreted
sensibly, for damaging any crops would
be mega-unhelpful to the interests of shooters using the range.

This year the field over which the BSA shoots is being used for sillage; i.e. commercial crop. At today's shoot, the farmer came up and remarked [to George Falls] that the vehicle tracks up the field would damage the crop, and especially the one driven slant-wise to the right will not grow out. I believe this track was made by another club, but issue applys to all users of the range. For many years F&K survived without any vehicles on the range. At most it is permitted to have one ambulance on the range. Therefore will members please stop taking their vehicles into the field, and the at-most one ambulance should keep to the far left edge.
The rifle usage cards in the binder are now obsolete, but they will be stored for the record. Usage of members' target shooting firearms, as required by law [another creeping imposition of the big brother state at its citizens' expense] will be done by using the box on the score card and the secretary transcribing the number into the results spreadsheet back home, off range.
Members who do not fill in the serial number, will have no-return entered as the rifle's serial number. Whether a member considers this adequate relative to the law's requirement that separate usage of target rifle is for the member to decide.
The club has received 2009 Shooter Certification Cards
from the NRA. Those members wishing a card, and you will need
one to shoot on military ranges (e.g. Castlelaw, Ponteland, Bisley etc,
but not Blairadam nor Glen Tilt) should approach Robbie
Taylor:-
You
should state what discipline or disciplines you shoot.
[Note: F&K's NRA affiliation number is 330.]
As a result of the votes received on this matter for 2009,
F&K shall :-
